Jahangir, Silver Heavy Rupee- Jahangiri (20% overweight Rupee), 13.53g, “Sakht Noorani” couplet, Lahore Mint AH 1015/ RY 1 (numeral 1), Obv: Persian legend hemistich “Shah Nur al-Din Jahangir ibn Akbar Badshah”, Rev: Persian legend hemistich “Ruy zar Ra Sakht Noorani ba-Rang Mihr wa Mah” followed by mint-name and AH date (KM# 155.4). About extremely fine, extremely rare.
Immediately after his accession, Jahangir decided to increase the weight of the silver rupees by 20% elevating them to a new standard called the ‘Jahangiri’. As the mention of the first RY in number suggests, this coin was struck even before Jahangir’s formal accession.
