Farrukhsiyar, Copper light-weight Dam, 5.86g, Farrukhnagar Mint. Extremely fine for type, extremely rare.
These coins struck by Nawabs of Arkat, Mughal Subedars of Carnatic province. The mint-name here was read as Tirchanapalli; however, the ‘shosha’ or the sigmoid curve of the letter ‘Gaaf’ following the word ‘Farrukh’ is clearly evident on the coin. Thus, the mint-name is plausibly read as ‘Farrukhnagar’. There are rare rupees struck at the mint of Ausa in Marathwada which bear this alias but these copper coins are usually found in Tamilnadu and therefore it is evident that ‘Farrukhnagar’ here was a name given to a place somewhere in Tamilnadu and it is not synonymous with Ausa- Maharashtra.
