Aurangzeb, Gold Mohur, 10.91g, “Bandar-i Mubarak Square areas” type, Bandar-i Mubarak Surat Mint, Obv: Parts of the couplet “Sikka zad dar Jahan chu Mihr Muneer” seen in margins; Shah Aurangzeb Alamgir in the centre, within a square area, Rev: In square area, Manoos Maimanat Julus; in left and top margins, “Bandar Mubarak” clearly readable (Hitherto unknown and unpublished for the type). Very fine, exceedingly rare.
The 'square areas'-type gold coins were struck from Akbarabad, Shahjahanabad, Junagarh, Akbarnagar and Jahangirnagar mints. No other coin of Surat mint, particularly showing the epithet 'Bandar-i Mubarak' clearly, is known in this type. Since coins with the epithet were struck during RYs Ahd and 2 only, one can surmise this to be an early, or possibly celebratory, issue of Aurangzeb's reign.
