Akbar (AH 963-1014/1556-1605 AD), Agra Mint, Silver Nazarana Rupee, Over struck on Suri Dynasty coin?, Elahi 48, Month Farwardin (Aries), Obv: Arabic legend “Jalla Jalalahu Allahu Akbar”, Rev: Persian legend month “Farwardin” at the top, “zarb Agra” & “Elahi 48” at the bottom, 11.41g, 29.37mm, ((KM # 93.1), no test marks, centrally struck, original patina, choice quality, Exceedingly Rare.
Note: This Akbar rupee appears to have been minted on a Suri Dynasty coin of the Delhi Sultanate, as evidenced by the traces below. During the years 47 and 48 at the Agra mint, it seems there was a shortage of metal, leading to the utilization of Suri rupees. To accommodate the substantial large flans of the Suri rupees, a correspondingly large die featuring Akbar's design was specially crafted. The presented rupee serve as a testament to this event at the royal mint of Agra, giving rise to the creation of the notably large flan of the Nazarana Rupee of Akbar.
