Incorporated in New York. Cert. #64, issued to John H. Maugham for 998 shares. Signed by Jos. R. Blossemp as president and Alfred Peckham as secretary. Cancelled written in red across face and by lines through signatures. Printer: Henry Siebert & Bros., New York. Founded in 1875, Sneffels had a peak population of 2000 people during its heyday from the mid-1880s to 1891. Located on the mountain of the same name, even getting there was hazardous--the road was treacherous and narrow and there were many rockslides and deaths. At one point a “Revenue Tunnel,” costing $600,000, was built to solve many of the problems at the mine, but to no avail. There are only scattered remnants today [Ref: www.ghosttowns.com/states/co/sneffels.html].City: Ouray CityCounty: Ouray CountyState: CO
