Archibald MacNeal Willard (b.1836 ?d.1918) fought in the American civil war and began painting scenes from the war during his time in the service. This print is a reproduction of Willard?s masterpiece painting, ?The Spirit of ?76? formerly known as ?Yankee Doodle.? He was inspired to paint it after seeing a parade pass through his town and it went on to be exhibited at the Centennial Exposition. It is truly a wonderful salute to the American spirit after the Revolutionary war. In it, military field musicians march in celebration of the victory at hand. The bandaged fife player and drum players proudly salute their fellow soldiers with music as the American Flag is carried behind them. This large print is mounted a medium oak frame which brings the total measurements of the piece to 25 ½? x 32 ½?. ?The Spirit of ?76? is a wonderful historic tribute to our forefathers? struggle to secure our independence and would be a remarkably affordable gift for the patriotic American in your family this holiday season.
