British admiral and statesman (born 1900), uncle of Prince Philip, and Supreme Allied Commander in Southeast Asia during World War II, who was killed by an IRA bomb in 1979. Two items: TLS, signed “Yours sincerely, Mountbatten of Burma,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, Chief of Defence Staff letterhead, dated March 13, 1961. Mountbatten of Burma complies with an autograph request: “I have signed the photograph clippings and return them for your collection.”; and an ink signature, “Mountbatten of Burma AF,” on an off-white 7.25 x 5.25 sheet, with two clipped photos affixed above signature.
