Who is not familiar with the Moulin Rouge in Paris, which was captured in this vibrant oil painting in the expressionist style. One can only surmise the hustle and bustle that prevails on the road, and what happens behind the lighted windows of the houses, as the dynamically executed composition is rendered without contours. Rather, the figures and architectural elements form a Mosaic image with sparkling points of light, which gives an immediate impression of the nocturnal atmosphere in Paris at that time.



The painting is indistinctly signed lower right and inscribed lower left, ‘Le Moulin Rouge in Paris’. It is in very good condition with light framing marks. The painted wooden frame shows small nicks and has a crack at the lower front bar. The overall dimensions, framed, are 83 x 63 cm. The tenter frame measures 70 x 50 cm. (cko)
