“Mothra” R/C Model
After the success of Toho Studio’s “Godzilla”, the producers went to town making one grand oversize monster movie after another. All with basically the same formula. And many with the same director (Ishiro Honda). One of the most popular, simply because it was so delightfully “disgusting”, was 1961’s “Mothra”, about an atomic laced oversize moth larva called Mothra, protector of native women from its island who are kidnapped to become “singers” on the mainland. Like the earworms in that infamous “Night Gallery” episode and “Star Trek 2”, this massive larva became everyone kid’s nightmare, and they loved it. Especially as it spewed a “silk-like” substance to entomb its victims. Once again, toy and model company Tokyo Marui created an amazing 100th scale reproduction of Mothra in high-flex rubber. It comes with its own mechanical electronic “skeleton”, which, with the supplied Remote allows you to move it forward, turn left, turn right, move its head up and down and scream its trademark screech (with supplied speakers inside), and best of all, to spew actual “Mothra silk” to entomb your enemies. Most rare of all, it actually comes with two fully charged aerosol canisters to insert into the body, allowing you to spew to your heart’s content. Other sets found in collections virtually always come without the “silk cans”, or ones that are empty. The body has some slight dried “silk” on its right side. Comes with a manual (In Japanese, but with easy to understand drawings). Measures 21”x5”x6”. In perfect condition after all these years! Batteries not included.
