Amazing set of four 3.25 x 5.75 receipts from Frenchy’s House of Barbecue in Hayward, California, each signed in ballpoint or pencil by a member of The Mothers of Invention, including, “Frank Zappa (band),” “Raymond Eugene Collins,” and “Jim Black,” who also signs the fourth receipt, “Elliot Ingber, co-signed by Jim, Band.” Also included is a smaller 1.75 x 3.5 receipt, dated March 12, 1966, signed in pencil, “Elliot Ingber.” In overall very good to fine condition. When the Mothers played Frenchy’s from May 6–26, 1966, the band’s debut album, Freak Out!, had yet to be released, and during these early shows they were still billed as The Mothers. In addition to vintage autographs, these receipts detail the Mothers’ individual eating habits, with Zappa ordering chicken and a 'special' with coke and coffee, Black and Collins both preferring 'smothered steak,' and Ingber, on the later receipt, ordering a cheese burger. An extremely early set of Mothers of Invention autographs.
