A borderless wool weaving showing two figures, surrounded by the rainbow goddess, measuring 36 x 39.” Weaver: Rosita (or Rosicita) Tsosie of Many Farms, NM. She wrote a handwritten explanation of her work, as follows: Mother Earth is the light beige with the blue outline. Mother Earth holds the four sacred plants. They are the corn, beans, squash and tobacco. Father Sky is the black with the white outline which indicates the night and the dawn. In the middle is the sun and the moon, across the arm and body is the milky way. The white dots are constellations of stars. There is also a bat and a medicine bag which are the messengers of the night. This sandpainting is used for healing and protection. Made with wilde (sic) wooly yarn Type #01.” Purchased by the consignor in 2003 from the Crownpoint Rug Weavers Auction in Crownpoint, NM. Excellent condition. Fairbanks Collection - HKA#65396
