ALS in Hebrew, two pages, 5.25 x 7, May 12, 1950. Letter to painter Ludwig Blum thanking him for a gift. In part: “I doubt that I can express in a few words my heartfelt thanks to you for your painting of Jerusalem that you gave me for my birthday. I am not trained, nor am I a certified “expert” in painting, but I have a great deal of interest and feelings for the subject. I have always loved painting. For some time before I came to Jerusalem, I was familiar with your paintings of Jerusalem and of the Judean Desert. Since then, during my time in Jerusalem and up until today, I have continued to take an interest in paintings of Jerusalem made by various artists…I cannot conclude without touching on another subject–your paintings of our War of Independence. I know what you and Mrs. Blum lost in this war. That fact, more than anything else gives you the obligation to continue to paint and to eternalize personal episodes and images of landscapes that are tied to our wars. I must ask you not to be daunted by the difficulties inherent in this and I urge you to go everywhere and to commit to canvas the pictures that are necessary.” Some light separations to central horizontal fold to each page, one fold through portion of signature, and scattered light toning and wrinkling, otherwise fine condition. Excellent content from a key figure of the State of Israel.
