This is a spectacular clock with an ornamental brass crest and beautiful hands and that's about the limit of my understanding of clocks. However, I have some literature with diagrams that came with it, which I will quote in part, and can scan and fax to anyone who would like to know more. "These clocks were first made towards the end of the 18th century in the village of Morez in the Morbier district of the Franche Comte in the Jura Mountains. Their production continued until the early part of the 20th century. They have an inverted verge escapement with a seconds pendulum, which operates with a cranked fork, and they have a dual striking action. The dual rack is vertical instead of in the usual horizontal position and has a rod that falls by gravity onto the snail." I have no idea what any of that means but, from the bottom of my non-technical decorative arts heart, it is a fine and beautiful clock, and it works.
