Six consecutive months of the ''New York Tribune'' from January to June of 1892, bound. All aspects of fin de siecle news are contained throughout, from the first states' experiments with Prohibition to women's suffrage and the election of 1893. An incredible assortment of groundbreaking events occurred during this slice of 1892 life and are covered here, including the first council called by Booker T. Washington at Tuskegee, Yale's decision to begin admitting women to graduate school, and the green-lighting of plans for the Union Railway and Indian reservations. Throughout the entire six months, the topics appearing most consistently are the Chicago World's Fair, the debate over a potential new silver standard, the effects of Tammany in Congress, and the foreshadowing of Prohibition. A serial column called ''Chivalry in Blue'' features Civil War soldier letters. It's replaced by ''American Millionaires'', a column examining the country's wealthiest men by state. More than 50 issues each run 16pp. Measures 12.5'' x 18''. Khaki green cloth boards with black printed lettering to spine. Foxing to boards and toning to leaves. Separation of rear interior hinge with backstrip. Fragile leaves bear occasional small tears to edges. In very good condition, especially given age.
