Considering this heirloom was published over 65 years ago, the deep, rich cover colors are breathtaking, belying the technical grade from CGC, owing to overall wear, mostly around the edges. Gerber rates issue #16 as "scarce", and CGC has certified just four unrestored copies to date, only one of which managed a grade higher than VG 4.0. Classic Golden Age artists contributing include Creig Flessel, Joe Shuster (on Superman prototype, Dr. Occult), and Leo O'Mealia. These pre-superhero (Dr. Occult notwithstanding) issues are real value bargains. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
