Manufactured by Moore circa 1860 to 1865 and later by National circa 1865 to 1870. Total quantity estimated at 6,000 equally divided between the two companies. This example was manufactured by Moore with the top of the barrel marked "MOORES PAT. FA. CO. BROOKLYN N.Y." and the underside marked "PAT FEB 24 1863". German silver half-moon blade front sight on a blue finished barrel, with silver plated brass frame. The barrel and frame feature a scroll engraving, with the scrollwork on a punch dot background only on the frame. The sides of the barrel feature the additional star and arrow engraving and the frame has shallow checking on the sides of the grip with deep fancy checkering on the back.

Very good. The barrel has a mottled gray patina with limited traces of original blue finish in the protected areas with some minor pitting. The frame retains 30% original silver plating with the exposed brass having a fine patina. The engraving is crisp.
