Moorcroft Pottery by Anji Davenport Trial Vase, Highland Stags
The vase is of tall baluster form and displays a continuous hand-painted and tubelined landscape scene with several stags in various poses among rocky outcrops, mountain ranges, and a serene body of water. The scene is intricately rendered in naturalistic tones of brown, rust, tan, ivory, and grey, with stylized foliage and craggy rock detailing at the base. The piece shows the raised slip-trailed linework typical of Moorcroft pottery. This piece is a confirmed trial example, as indicated by the word "TRIAL" hand-inscribed on the base along with the date. The underside also bears the impressed Moorcroft mark reading "MOORCROFT MADE IN STOKE ON TRENT ENGLAND," along with the designer's signature and a master confirmation label stating "Confirmed by Elise Adams." This trial piece comes in its original deep blue presentation box marked MOORCROFT in gold lettering. The dimensions of the vase are approximate. This item has its original box: 17"L x 7"W x 7"H.
