Montreal, PQ- The Consolidated Bank of Canada $5 July 1, 1876 Ch. # 205-10-04
This bank was formed by the merger of The City Bank of Montreal and the Royal Canadian Bank of Toronto in 1876. Both institutions were poorly managed and the combination proved no better than the sum of its parts. Within two years the newly constituted bank was showing losses, and by 1879 the bank was suspended. All depositors were paid in full, but shareholders lost about 80% of their investment. This example is from the bank's first and only issue. About Fine.
From The Thomas M.
