<B>Montreal, PQ- The Royal Bank of Canada</B></I> $20 Jan. 2, 1909 Ch. # 630-10-04-22<BR> Founded in Halifax in 1864 under the rubric The Merchants Bank of Halifax, this institution grew steadily. It changed its name to The Royal Bank of Canada in 1900, and its domicile from Halifax to Montreal, then the epicenter of Canadian banking, in 1904. The 1909 issue was the first bearing the Montreal domicile, with the $20 a very scarce denomination. <B>Fine,</B></I> with a small split at the right end more than offset by the vivid blue color displayed by the note. <BR><I>From The Thomas M.
