In 1870, however, the bank became involved in a court case involving its speculation in the gold market, which resulted in a loss of public confidence. A few years later the bank merged with the Royal Canadian Bank to form The Consolidated Bank of Canada. This attractive example is unpriced in higher grades in Charlton.
