<B> Montgomery of Alamein Autograph Letter Signed </B></I> "<I>Montgomery of Alamein.</B></I>" One page, 5" x 7.25", personal letterhead, Isington Mill, Alton, New Hampshire, November 11, 1964. The letter was written to Montague-Smith and it reads in part, "<I>…I can say that no uncle of mine ever went to Australia. My father had only two brothers; one became a soldier, and one a clergyman; neither went to Australia. The children you mention are not in any way related to me…</B></I>" Bernard Law Montgomery (Montgomery of Alamein) was described by <I> Time </B></I> magazine as a "dedicated professional soldier with a superb sense of the big things of war." He was in London in 1887, and educated at the Royal Military College at Sandhurst. During WWII, after several successful missions, he was appointed Commander of the 8th Army, and led it to victory from El Alamein across North Africa into Sicily and Italy. In September of 1944, he was promoted to Field Marshal, and was named Commander-in-Chief of the British and Allied Armies in Northern France. In 1946, he was dubbed Lord Montgomery of Alamein.<BR><BR> The letter is in very fine condition; usual folds are present; light wrinkling present on upper edge. The letter comes complete with a photograph of Alamein.
