Montana State Prison Made License Plates 1949 (23)
For your consideration are twenty-three Montana State license plates made at the Deer Lodge Prison circa 1949-1962. All but one license plate were made in 1949, the one outlier is from 1959 but has a light blue metal tag reading 62 (1962). The first license plates made at the Deer Lodge Prison factory were issued in 1928 and featured the word Montana written in its entirety. "Prison Made" was stamped at the bottom of all plates manufactured between 1939 and 1957. The license plates were originally painted white and read, "Montana - 49" at the bottom in raised, black lettering. The bottom of each license plate is stamped reading, "Prison Made". They show fair to good condition with most showing faded paint, bends and minor cuts with slight rusting/corrosion present on some. They measure 5 11/16" L x 13 5/8" W and have a collective weight of 5 pounds and 4 ounces.
