For your consideration is this 5" long fossilized partial skull of what is believed to be Oreodont Merycoidodon Gracilis. The fossilized skull (jaw section missing) comes from Big Horn County in Montana. Oreodonts, the common name for Merycoidodontoidea, are extinct mammals most closely related to pigs, though they have no close relatives living today. They were plant-eating animals with short faces and fang-like canine teeth. They were about the size of sheep and roamed the plains of North America during the Oligocene period. The fossil shows good condition with well defined upper molars. Measures 5" long x 4"wide x 3" tall.
