Montana Historical Newspapers 1878 to 1956
Featured in this lot is a collection of sixteen (16) historical newspapers from Montana which date from 1878 to 1950, including The Benton Record (1878), The Dillon Examiner (1892), The Dillon Tribune (1892-1898), The Dillon Daily Messenger (1930-1935), Southwestern Montana Enterprise - also from Dillon - (1936), Park County News (1956), and The River Press from Benton (1946, during their Centennial week celebrations). Notable stories covered includes a front page update of both fronts of the Spanish American War. Alongside the usual local advertisements for grocery, clothing, hardware stores and "cure-all medicines/tonics" are advertisements for agricultural use implements such as the McCormick Horse-drawn Sickle Bar Mowing Machine, Avery Light Draft Sulky and Gang Plows, and Spring and "Democrat" Wagons (called Democrat because of its unassuming and democratic characteristics.)
The newspapers are in fragile but otherwise good condition considering their age, tears and foxing noted. Approximate average measurements are 24"L x 18"W closed, 36"W x 24"L opened, 12.5"L x 9.25"W folded.
