Montague</I>&#34; as First Lord of the Treasury, and &#34;<I>Ste:Fox</I>&#34; as a Commissioner of the Treasury, 6¼&#34; x 8¾&#34;, n.p., 1 Oct. 1699. Also signed by John Smith &#40;&#34;J Smith&#34;&#41; as Chancellor of the Exchequer. Ordering payment to Robert Cole, &#34;<I>his Ma</I>[jes]<I>ty&#39;s Agent and Consul at Algier…the sume of Three hundred pounds for halfe a year on his allowance</I>….&#34; Very good; some toning and soiling; penciled notes on recto and verso by an earlier owner. Montague was the first Earl of Halifax. He introduced the bill into Parliament establishing the Bank of England. Stephen Fox was with the royalist army at the Battle of Worcester and went into exile with Charles II.
