Bodie “…the very geology of the region is restless and full of upheaval. Bodie’s rocks are of volcanic origin. The current theory (which geologists caution is us subject to change in the light of new discovery) is that an active magma chamber lay under the Bodie region, from which multiple volcanic vents formed. Those vents are known today as Bodie Bluff, Standard Hill, Queen Bee, and a few others. Shortly after these volcanoes stopped spewing, about nine millions years ago, mineralization laid down gold in their internal fissures” [Bodie’s Gold, Tall Tales and True History From a California Mining Town, by Marguerite Sprague, UNR Press, 2003, pg. 3].The Queen Bee is also the name of a hill just outside Bodie, California.
