Freehold , NJ. Lot of 4 Notes, Includes $1, $2, & $3, 1841-1844, Wait 644, 645, & 648, R-3. Four issued notes, all printed in black, with blank reverses. The Monmouth Bank opened in 1824 and closed in the 1830s. It was reorganized in the early 1840s, and failed in 1843. The two $1 notes(Wait 644) have a central vignette with a shield surmounted by an eagle, with maidens at left and right. At right is a vignette of Archimedes raising the world with a lever. The $2 note(Wait 645) has a central vignette of a seated woman, a shield containing 'HOPE" and an anchor at the right, and a spinning wheel at the left. At left is a vignette of a woman with grain, and at right is a vignette of a woman sitting on a bale. The $3 note(Wait 648) has a central vignette of six women at a spring. The vignette at the right depicts a woman standing.
