Showa period, 1926-1989, Japan. Both carved from ivory, the first, depicting the monkey Songoku from the Saiyuki adventures, who realized he cannot escape the power of Buddha; the other, a smiling robed female figure with two black inlaid spots as eyebrows on forehead, and having removable round base, signed inside Masako(?).
Height 4.1. cm. (1 5/8 in.) and 3.9 cm (1 1/2 in.) respectively.
