Mohawk Wooden Cradelboard
Mid/Late 1800s, Amazing solid wood cradleboard with elaborately hand carved and painted designs featuring florals and berries, birds aflight and in a nest, two elk, two beavers, and crossed early Canadian flags. The sunshade is long gone but the footboard is still in place, top is scalloped, and interior is worn down from use but sturdy and still intact. It appears that the paint is original and some is crazed, and the carving is almost all intact as well but shows some erosion from use. This is a museum worthy example of creative mid/late 1800s work. The flowers are of the same hand as the famous 1860 Mohawk cradleboard currently on display at the Met's Gallery 356 in New York City, suggesting it may be by the same maker. Ex. Fox Collection. Good condition. 28"
