Moeurs et coutumes des peuples, ou Collection de tableaux représentant les usages remarquables, les mariages, funérailles, supplices et fêtes des diverses nations du monde. Paris, E. Hocquart, 1814. 2 vol. in-4° : 144 hors-texte. Rel. de l'époque : demi-chagrin à grain long rouge, dos lisses fleuronnés dorés, plats de papier gaufré à impression grain long rouge (petits défauts : qqs petits trous de vers dans les gorges, plats très lég. frottés...).
Edition en partie originale publiée en livraisons, le 1er tome ayant paru chez la Vve Hocquart en 1811, présentant un intéressant choix de 61 peuples du monde : Europe (Turquie, Russie, Albanie, Finlande, Grèce...), Asie (Kirghiztan, Iran, Inde, Tibet, peuples de Sibérie, Yakouts, Corée, Vietnam...), Afrique (Maghreb, Guinée, Congo, Caffres, Touaregs...), Amérique (Mexique, diverses tribus amérindiennes, Inuits, Guyane, Brésil, Aléoutiens, Pérou...),- Océanie (Indonésie, îles Sandwich, Marquises, Pelew, Nouvelle-Zélande...) avec pour chacun une pagination séparée et de 1 à 12 hors-texte, soit 142 planches en coloris d'époque. L'intérêt des illustrations repose dans les représentations des "usages remarquables" et autres us mentionnés dans le titre : mariages, funérailles, supplices... Signalons aussi les représentations d'un sauna finlandais, de derviches tourneurs, d'une scène de chamanisme Yakoute, un sati ou sacrifice des veuves indiennes, une chasse à l'autruche dans le désert, un scalpage iroquois, des gauchos à l'oeuvre...
Bel ex. de l'édition de luxe sur papier vélin satiné avec les planches coloriées et d'une grande fraîcheur. Enrichi, par rapport aux tables, de 2 planches pour la Grèce soit 144 planches au total.

After full payment, buyers are kindly requested to take away their purchases immediately after the auction or at the bookshop the next Tuesday after the auction 230 av. Louise, from 2 pm until 6 pm.
Goods will be send only after customers’ payment.
Packing and dispatching are entirely at the buyer’s own expense.
Books whose price exceed 100 EUR will be send by registered post.

Payment will be made in Euro's. We do not accept credit cards neither cheques whose total amount exceed 200 EUR or cheques not validated for higher sum.
Terms of sale require buyers to pay immediately for their purchases, which means that lots will be released to them only when full and cleared payment as been received by us
In addition to the hammer price, the buyer has to pay a buyer’s premium of 21%, V.A.T. inclusive, all strictly in cash and in Euro's (EUR)
In case of original art and if the principles of the author’s rights are applicable, an extra 4% must be paid on each hammer price of at least 1250 EUR
All items are assumed to be in good condition unless otherwise stated. Buyers are kindly invited to carry out their own inspection of the lots they want to buy. All items to be auctioned are on view for several days prior to the sale.
Returning an item after the striking of the hammer will not be accepted, whatever the reason put forward. Those items bought on order must be inspected within 8 days after receipt. Any return after this term will be refused.
All items of the catalogue with the mention « n.c. » (non collationné = not inspected) are not subject to return. Neither are those sold in lots (two items or more) works consisting in multiple volumes and periodicals or series.
If you cannot attend the auction, we can execute written bids on your behalf. To ensure a satisfactory service, it is necessary to make arrangements for the services at least one day before the sale.
On every purchase Belgian law only is applicable, and all cases of dispute are exclusively to the competence of the Brussels Chamber.
