Modern Times (United Artists, 1936). Lobby Card (11" X 14"). Even though some sound and dialog is used, this Charlie Chaplin comedy was the last film produced in Hollywood (besides tributes like "Silent Movie") that used silent film conventions such as title cards. Charlie is a worker in an industrialized factory who gets caught up in the modern way of the assembly line. There are hilarious sequences with Charlie being force fed by an automatic feeder and the famous shot where he becomes part of the machinery. The Silent Era comes to an end (almost ten years after the onset of sound) with Charlie and Paulette Goddard as the Gamin walking hopefully off into the sunset. This lobby card has small corner creases, two pinholes just inside the image area, four small pieces of label paper on back of card, a few scuffs and scratches, and a small edge stain. A delightful shot of Chaplin and Goddard. Very Fine-.
