This rare Model T cobalt glass flower holder is a beaut! In a flared, morning glory shape, its deep blue color is stunning! It is circa 1915-1920s.<p>

Flower holders were considered a final touch for proper and dignified touring in these old cars. They were attached with a metal bracket (which ranged from the basic metals to gold or silver in the most expensive car models) to the insides of the walls of the car, often on or near the door posts. And it was not only for the Model Ts--others cars of the day had this option available as well!<p>

Flower holders were made of all kinds of glass--crystal, cobalt, carnival, vaseline, pressed, and etched, porcelain, metal, and wood. Companies such as Quezel, Sinclaire, Hawkes, McKee and Steuben were involved in their manufacture. Some jewelry stores sold higher quality holders--some of which, like Steuben, were considered handblown although with a mold. Flower holders were also available for purchase as an option at the time the car was bought.<p>

A flower holder, then, was considered a necessary part of outfitting a car, especially when that car tended to sputter and spew noxious odors which the added scent of flowers tended to dispel in the car's interior!<p>
