Model 1911A1 by Remington Rand, .45 ACP caliber, special presentation grade with full gold-plated finish and mounted on plaque which is period inscribed, “Presented to High Standard Mfg. Co. by Remington Rand ‘C’ Works for Barrel Production, M-1911A1 Pistol Contract, April 30, 1944”. Serial number “1915082”. This pistol was accompanied by a 1997-dated later by noted expert and author Scott Meadows attesting to the originality of this 1911A1, and stating it is one of two known, the other being serial number “1,000,000”. Also accompanied by a letter from Charles Petty, editor of American Handgunner Magazine, dated September 4, 1995 describing the pistol and plaque and stating that it was found in a small gun shop in Connecticut where it was being sold for the Estate of a former High Standard employee. Also this particular pistol is featured in an article by Scott Meadows for Gun Report magazine, August 1999, pages 14 and 54 where this and serial number 1,000,000 are pictured together and explaining the importance and rarity of the two aforementioned arms. The pistol remains in fine to excellent condition showing nearly all its rich gold plate, just some very slight normal aging and handling. Finish remains 98-99% plus. Some handling, excellent military type grips, pristine interior, evidence of slight handling and minimal use. A well-documented crown jewel of the 1911A1 series. Est: $5,000 - $10,000
