The US Springfield Model 1911 US Cavalry Sword in this offering was developed in 1910 by the US Ordnance Board and US Cavalry Board. Only 79 swords were manufactured in 1911 by US Springfield Armory for test trials by the US Cavalry. They were serial numbered 101 to 179. This sword is serial No 176. Only a handful of these swords now survive and they are one of the great rarities in US Cavalry collections. They are rarely encountered and missing from the most advanced US Military sword and edged weapon collection. These were the predecessor of the M1913 Patton Cavalry Sword adopted in 1913 with its straight thrusting blade versus the cutting blade of earlier designs. Chance of lifetime to acquire an example. From the Hayes Otoupalik Collection.
