Manufacturer: DWM Model: 1906
This is an example of a Model 1906 DWM Luger pistol that was produced for the "Royal Portuguese Navy". This was the original contract model made before 1910 when the Republic of Portugal was established. It is estimated that a total of only 1,000 were produced, however the highest known serial number to date is 769. The top of the chamber is marked with the large "Portuguese Crown over a Single Fouled Naval Anchor" with the "DWM" logo on the front toggle. This first model has the earlier 1906 style frame with grip safety, no stock lug, with the correct polished lower safety area (with no markings) and the "CARREGADA" marked extractor. The lower left side of the barrel extension is also correctly stamped with the Portuguese "MP", proof with no other inspection or acceptance proofs on the pistol. As noted this model is numbered in the correct commercial manner, with no letter suffix. It has the standard commercial finish and is fitted with an unmarked nickel plated magazine with a commercial wooden base that is stamped with a small inverted Portuguese "triangle inside a circle" proofmark.
