Model 1879 Trapdoor Springfield carbine, .45-70 cal., in near fine original condition, serial #227859. The barrel retains 92-96% bright original blue, some slight scratches, minor losses, and just beginning normal age. The lock plate shows 90-95% original blue, the breech shows original quenched colors; the breech block and tang show 75-85% case hardening, toning slightly. The stock shows a fully defined and crisp SVW 1882 datedcartouche. The stock is very good+ to near fine with a few minor dings, mars, scratches and dents. There is a P proof behind the trigger guard with a small J.C. letter stamp. The trigger guard shows 80-90% blue, thebarrel band shows 90-95% bright original blue. The butt plate shows 70-80% thinning blue, the saddle ring and bar show most of their original finish. The rear sight also shows most of its original blue and is thecorrect type. The action is crisp, the interior and bore excellent. A 9-9.5 on 1 to 10 scale. Est.: $4,500-$9,000
