Model 1871 rolling block rifle by Springfield Arsenal with U.S. martial markings in fine to excellent original condition. The rifle is chambered for .50-70 caliber and is dated 1872. The arm shows a 36” standard round barrel secured by 2 bands. The frame retains 90% plus bright original case hardening with very colorful rainbow hues. The barrel shows original Arsenal bright with just some minor beginning age and slights areas of staining and minor scratches. The stocks are in fine condition showing sharp cartouche at left wrist with a nice light original color. The forend shows some scratches and marks from military type storage and is not as good as the butt stock. The rear sight shows quenched blue original color. The butt plate shows 30% to 50% case hardening. A correct style ramrod is included. The action is crisp and the bore is excellent. A strong 9.5 on a 1 to 10 scale that would be very difficult to improve on. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
