Model 1866 Remington Rolling Block spur trigger navy, .50 caliber centerfire, fully and finely period scroll engraved in the style of LD Nimschke, gold and silver wash, checkered ivory stocks, serial #3. The pistol shows strong traces of original silver and gilt finish drifting to patina with some scattered erosion and beginning pinprick pitting and darkening, and is completely uncleaned and untouched. The ivory stocks are sharps and show a lovely patina, a couple of cracks and small losses, normal aging, but very good plus and absolutely original to the period. The action is tight, the bore is near excellent. The pistol has been carriedand used but not abused, found in Montana. The engraving is of a very high quality nature and shows profuse Nimschke style flows and wolf’s head engraved on each side of hammer. Only a handful of original ivorystocked Remingtons are known, and with this low number and ornate engraving, it was most probably a presentation arm that headed west. One of this cataloger’s favorites as it has “the look”. Provenance, John Fox, Jerry
