Model 1863 Spanish Mountain Howitzer, with royal cipher of the Queen of Spain. Purportedly purchased from Spain and used by the South, with only five known extant, one in a Detroit Museum, one in a Salt Lake City Museum, one in a Virginia Museum, and only this and one other in private hands. Carriage is newly made from measurements taken from the example in the Detroit Museum. Tube measures 38-1/2'' in length; six-groove rifled bore measures 3-3/8'' from land to land. Carriage is 42'' wide, wheels being 37'' in dia. Overall length of carriage and tube is 73''. Carriage is excellent as mfg'd in the last 50 years. Bronze tube with beautiful greenish gray patina, with light just general nicks and scuffs. Est.: $18,000-$24,000.
