Model 1860 Cavalry Officer’s sword and metal scabbard; the blade is re-nickeled , the scabbard is pitted and rusty; accompanying this lot is a signed affidavit stating this sword and a Smith & Wesson pistol were foundin an old trunk in the attic of our family farmhouse near Paris, Kentucky; it was used by my great (3 or 4 times removed) uncle Julius Anderson who was a Captain in the Seventh Kentucky Cavalry on the Union side.The (the S&W and sword) were captured by Grandfather (3 or 4 times removed) Gabe Alexander who was a Lt. in the Second Kentucky (Southern) Cavalry. They were both home in 1863 and my Grandfather took hiscousin captive and took his pistol and sword. Julius returned to his regiment and my Grandfather had the blade nickel plated for Veterans parades and ceremonies (edited and shortened); signed “John Alexander III”; with military history of Alexander and Anderson; from an old collection.
