Model 1855 U.S. Springfield percussion single shot pistol-carbine, .58 cal., 12” round barrel, two leaf rear sight, swivel type steel ramrod, brass mountings, lock is fitted with a Maynard self priming device, lanyard ring mounted on butt, wood pistol stock, #12; accompanied with a detachable wood shoulder stock, brass mountings, sling swivel, “US” marked butt plate, no visible serial number on the stock. This set is in overall good condition showing and even brown patina on the barrel with evenly distributed light pitting under the patina; lock plate shows clear “U.S. Springfield” and the date “1855”; the action is good, the bore dark, the mounts show a taffy colored patina and the wood pistol grip is in overall good condition with the usual scattered nicks, mars and scratches from carry and storage. The stock fits the pistol nicely and is similar in age and condition to the gun; the attachment screw below the brass linking mount of the stock is an older though incorrect replacement; still a very good example of a hard-to-find Martial firearm. From the Richard Wolfe Collection. Est.: $3,000-$6,000.
