Model 1840 wrist breaker style Cavalry saber by Palmetto Armory marked on ricasso “Columbia S. C.” with original scabbard in good condition. The blade is un-cleaned with a gray to brown patina, some slight old sharpening on the edge during use, normal aging, pitting, and erosion. The scabbard shows some light to slightly heavy pitting on the drag and a dark brown patina showing exposure to the elements and no cleaning. The hilt shows a deep patina and is very attractive. The grip haslost most of its leather and the wire wrap is intact with good wood handle still intact. Considered by most collectors a Confederate secondary as they were made before the war. William A.
