Width 4 1/4 in.

A stepped, rectangular structure forms the setting of a scene in which a fanged deity seated on a platform at top center receives prisoners. Iguana warriors stand at top and bottom of a ramp holding a rope that joins four captive birds shown ascending the ramp. The lower warrior wears a headdress topped by a similar bird and holds a large dart in his left hand, while the upper warrior holds a bundle of darts. All the participants are rendered in low relief on the surface. Freely brushed cream-colored linear patterns cover the light brown structure. The overall condition is good, with minor flaking on the stirrup and several relief images are slightly abraded.

Provenance
Bonhams & Butterfields, San Francisco: sale 7437E, 9 June 2003, lot 5074, pp.17-18
