Width 5 in.

The virtually identical vessels show standing warriors, each with a small round war shield hiding the right hand and the left hand holding a war club diagonally across the chest. They wear a simple band headdress with arc shapes over each eye, simple loincloths, crescent-shaped nose ornaments, and tubular earspools. The principal piece of clothing is a sleeveless tunic divided into squares. Integral with the back of the tunic is a displayed figure with grimacing face, the head and arms and legs shown in relief. This may be an emblem in metal repoussé of the kind found in the Loma Negra area. Both vessels have minor chipping, and one has a repaired area at the back.

Provenance
Bonhams & Butterfields, San Francisco: sale 7437E, 9 June 2003, lot 5094, p.22
