Notes from Seaby RSC: "This refers to the successes in Sicily of Man. Aquillius (consul 101 BC) and to the exceptional valor which he displayed throughout the war."

My note: This reverse is described as the consul "raising Sicily", however, it strikes me as very much being the exact opposite. I'm describing it with hand on the back of Sicily, not raising her, but instead showing the victorious military dominance over the area during the war. In every instance of the reverse figure raising the personification of the region or area, the figure is facing the abject figure and lending a hand, not spurning them and showing them nude and completely helpless.
