Lot of 2. One is issued to Jay Gould in 1887 (signed by him on reverse, punch cancelled but signature intact). The other is issued in 1880, signed by Gould as president (punch cancelled). Jay Gould (1836–1892) was an American railroad magnate and financier widely regarded as one of the most ruthless "robber barons" of the Gilded Age. He gained control of several major railroads, including the Union Pacific and the Erie Railroad, often using aggressive and controversial tactics such as stock manipulation and bribery. Despite public criticism, Gould amassed immense wealth and influence, leaving a legacy of both industrial expansion and ethical controversy in American business history.
