Silver, 229.60g, Chapras Badge of the Inamdari of Dakor, Sardar Gopalrao Manohar Tambwekar, the Inamdar, legend within decorated flower in exergue: “Shri Ranchhodray ji Maharaj / Charani Tatpar” (ready to serve at the feet of Shri Ranchhod Ray Maharaj) in centre: “Shrimant Sardar Gopal Rao Manohar Tambwekar Inamdar Samsthan Dakor, no. 1”. Extremely fine, extremely rare.
The Tambwekars were an eminent Chitpavan Brahmin Sahukar family with banking operations spread over Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. They enjoyed the patronage of the Gaekwars of Baroda and as a result held Inamdari rights to many places. The holy shrine of Ranchhod ji at Dakor was one such. Highly regarded amongst Vaishnavas, the shrine dedicated to Krishna is a preeminent religious centre in Kheda district, North-Eastern Gujarat. The temple of Ranchhod ji at Dakor was built and renovated by the Tambwekars.
