c1930 - Lot of 4: Mine Safety Appliance (M-S-A) masks, in successively larger cases with all components inside. "Chemox Oxygen Breathing Apparatus" instructions listed inside each case, along with spares and photographs. All are Bureau of Mines approved. The large unit (c1960) is unique in that it has "Oxygen Generating" canisters. It was suitable for exposure to lethal gases, often the case in mining. It measures 23"x16"x9.5". The other units (except the smallest) were suitable for gas leaks, fires, smoke, dust, and typical mine incidents. The second-largest unit looks to be c1932, and measures 14.5"x12.5"x7". The next smaller unit is likely c1940, and measures 13"x9"x6.5". The smallest unit, (vintage unknown) in a cardboard box, is a dust respirator only, with changeable filters. It measures 7.5"x4.5"x3.5". The MSA Co. was established in 1914, and is still in business. All units are in very good to excellent condition, both inside and out. These would make a handsome addition to a Mining Museum or similar. -62008
