The Bureau obtained several passenger train cars and converted them into mobile first aid stations. In October 1911, the first national mine safety demonstration was held at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh. Around the same time, many other mining companies that had not previously held any kind of safety training began to establish their own programs and first aid teams.
