An idyllic painting in harmonious colors

This miniature was made of opaque water based pigments on wasli. Depicted are the Hindu mother goddess Parvati and her husband Shiva seated on a terrace. Both figures are rendered on a carpet under a canopy with a newly enamored look. They are surrounded by trees and the Nandi bull waiting patiently below.



The miniature is in good condition with beautiful colors and usual signs of age and use such as minimal color wear and a small bend in the lower rim. The work is framed under a mat, is unopened and has an overall size of 21.5 x 19 cm.



Jodhpur School

The Jodhpur School is a style of Indian miniature painting, which developed around the region of Jodhpur, capital of the ancient kingdom Marwar, during the 16th century. Popular motifs were courtly scenes with Maharajas as well as hunting scenes with elephants and horses.
